SUMMER CROP REPORT AND FALL SHOWS
July 27, 2014: How does your garden grow? In between visits to local farms for delectable summer vegetables and fruits, we've been raising up a crop of songs, students and shows to take to market in the summer and fall...
We're offering a sneak preview this Monday night at the Cantab in Cambridge, where we will be joined by bassist Brad Bensko, drummer Billy Mac and vocalist Christie Flemming for a set of Mojo Rodeo's honky-tonk blues. Our "opening act" will be my Harmonica Ensemble class, and some of Paul's former Berklee students may be on hand to play their own music. In short, the usual mischief and mayhem!
In October, we hit the road for a tour that will take us to the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas. One of the longest-running blues festivals in the country, it was named for a local radio show, "King Biscuit Time" which has been broadcasting continuously on KFFA since the 1940s. Sonny Boy Williamson, Robert "Jr" Lockwood, B.B. King and other blues luminaries played on the show, while many of their contemporaries tuned in to listen. The festival is a homecoming for veteran blues musicians as well as a showcase for up-and-coming ones, and attracts fans from around the world. On our way there, we hope to visit old friends and play some dates in the South and Midwest. Recommendations for venues are welcome! Looking forward to seeing you at home or down the road.
