Goin' Home
We're on our way home now, breathing the sweet air of New Jersey, looking for that first highway sign that says "New England."
Speaking of New England, and regarding our last entry, we received a comment from an alert reader who preferred to remain anonymous, so I will just call her "Mom," that the Romans were not, as we described them, toga-wearing champions of man-boy love . Apparently those were ancient Greek customs. We should have said, "we're doing as the Romans do: visiting vomitoria and gving paganism a much-needed facelift." There, isn't that better?
Posted by Annie at May 8, 2006 1:41 PMi for one feel much better. but, i still think the romans wore togas. as far as i know "animal house" was historically correct and they had a "toga party". and wasn't there a "vomitting scene" as well? i think you were off the mark only on the man-boy aspect of roman history. happy return to home!
Posted by: Jim in Florida at May 10, 2006 9:36 PMMy 5 years of Latin won't escape me. Technically the "vomitorium" was the part of the stadium where one exits a tunnel into the large open area (picture vomitus leaving the narrow opening of the mouth to be "vomited" into the open.)
I saw you at Godfrey Daniels and am enjoying the CDs. Looking forward to your next trip South and hearing more about Europeans and how to save on gasoline.
What, no Chicken Fried Eggs stories? Gyp!
